Chlortetracycline HCl ................. 110 mg

Pharmacological Properties

Chlortetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including aerobic, anaerobic bacteria, Mycoplasma, and some large viruses. It acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, making it a potent agent against various infections in animals.

Target Species

Poultry, large animals (cattle, sheep, calves, foals, lambs), dogs, and cats.

Indications for Use

Chlortetradad 11% Water-Soluble Powder is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including:

  • Hemolytic streptococci
  • Non-hemolytic streptococci
  • Staphylococci
  • Clostridium
  • Brucella
  • Haemophilus
  • Klebsiella
  • Corynebacteria
  • E. coli
  • Salmonella
  • Pasteurella

It is also effective in cases of CRD, spirochetosis, and actinomycosis. Additionally, it targets other pathogens not usually affected by conventional antibiotics, such as Rickettsia and certain large viruses related to psittacosis in birds and animals.
At high doses, the product may exhibit antiprotozoal activity.

Contraindications

Undesirable Effects

Generally rare at recommended doses.
Prolonged oral administration of high doses in ruminants may disrupt the rumen’s microbial balance, potentially leading to digestive stasis.

Posology and Method of Administration

  • Poultry: 1–2 g per 4 liters of drinking water daily for 5 days.
  • Feed premix: 1–2 kg per ton of feed daily for 5 days.
  • Large animals (cattle, sheep, calves, foals, lambs):
    5–10 mg chlortetracycline per kg body weight every 8 hours for 4–5 days.
  • Dogs and cats:
    10 mg chlortetracycline per kg body weight every 8 hours for 4 days.

Overdose

No adverse effects reported with standard overdoses.

Withdrawal Period

Animals and birds should not be slaughtered within 5 days after the last treatment.
