Chlortetracycline hydrochloride ................... 500 mg
Pharmacological Properties
Chlortetracycline is a bacteriostatic antibiotic with a very broad spectrum of activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It diffuses rapidly throughout the body and is slowly eliminated, maintaining effective therapeutic levels for extended periods. Its action is based on inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.
Target Species
Poultry, calves, and foals.
Indications for Use
CHLORTETRADAD 50% is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by a wide range of bacteria including:
- Staphylococcus
- Streptococcus
- Clostridia
- Haemophilus
- Klebsiella
- Escherichia coli
- Pasteurella
- Salmonella
It is also effective in cases of:
- Mycoplasma infections (CRD)
- Avian spirochetosis
- Actinobacillosis
- Chlamydiosis
Contraindications
No known contraindications when used as recommended.
Undesirable Effects
None reported under normal use conditions.
Posology and Method of Administration
- Poultry (drinking water): 1–2 g per 2 liters of water daily for 5 days.
- Poultry (feed premix): 1–2 kg per ton of feed daily for 5 days.
- Calves and foals: 5–10 mg chlortetracycline per kg body weight every 8 hours for 4–5 days.
Overdose
No adverse effects reported when administered within the recommended dosage.
Withdrawal Period
Animals and birds should not be slaughtered for human consumption within 5 days after the last treatment.
