Pharmacological Properties
Sulphaguanidine is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antimicrobial belonging to the class of enteric sulfonamides. It is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, allowing high and sustained concentrations in the intestinal lumen. This enhances its effectiveness in treating localized enteric infections.
The compound is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as protozoa, including Toxoplasma species.
