Pharmacological Properties
Niclosamide is a salicylanilide anthelmintic known for its potent activity against tapeworms (cestodes). It also shows efficacy against certain liver flukes. The product acts by inhibiting the parasite’s energy metabolism, leading to rapid expulsion from the host without significant irritation or inflammation.
Target Species
Cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, and cats.
Indications for Use
Niclodad® 25% Powder is an effective oral anthelmintic used for the treatment of tapeworm infections in both companion and farm animals:
- Dogs and cats: Effective against Taenia multiceps, Taenia pisiformis, Taenia hydatigena, and Dipylidium caninum.
- Poultry: Controls intestinal cestodes such as Raillietina spp.
- Cattle, sheep, and goats: Used in the treatment of Moniezia species.
- Horses: Active against Anoplocephala magna, Anoplocephala perfoliata, and Paranoplocephala mamillana.
Contraindications
No specific contraindications reported when used as directed.
Undesirable Effects
No adverse effects are commonly observed at the recommended dosage.
Posology and Method of Administration
Administer orally, mixed with water or milk (50–100 ml):
- Cattle: 10 g per 50 kg body weight
- Sheep and goats: 3–4 g per 10 kg body weight
- Dogs and cats: 10 g per 17 kg body weight
Overdose
No significant overdose effects have been documented under normal use conditions.
Withdrawal Period
Animals intended for meat consumption should not be slaughtered within 3 days after the last treatment.
