Pharmacological Properties
Sulphadimidine is a broad-spectrum sulfonamide effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and well-distributed throughout the body tissues.
It achieves high and sustained blood concentrations, making it particularly effective against systemic infections. The drug is primarily eliminated slowly through the urine, contributing to prolonged therapeutic action.
Target Species
Calves, lambs, kids (young goats), and foals
Indications for Use
SDM Dad Bolus is recommended for the treatment and control of:
- Septicemia
- Enteritis of various types
- Salmonellosis
- Pasteurellosis
- Escherichia coli infections in calves, lambs, goats, and foals
- Staphylococcal infections
- Pneumonia and bronchopneumonia
Contraindications
No contraindications reported when used as directed
Undesirable Effects
No adverse effects reported under normal usage
Posology and Method of Administration
- Initial dose: 1 bolus per 25 kg body weight (equivalent to 0.2 g sulphadimidine/kg) on day one
- Maintenance dose: ½ bolus per 25 kg body weight (equivalent to 0.1 g sulphadimidine/kg) for the next three days
- Administer orally using a bolus applicator
- Ensure adequate water intake during treatment
Overdose
No toxicity observed under recommended dosing. In case of accidental overdose, consult a veterinarian.
Withdrawal Period
Do not slaughter treated animals for human consumption within 10 days of the last treatment
