Gentodad 5% Injection

Composition

Each 1 ml contains:

  • Gentamicin Sulphate: 50 mg

Pharmaceutical Form

Sterile solution for injection
Appearance: clear to slightly yellowish solution, free from visible particles

Pharmacological Properties

Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum, bactericidal aminoglycoside antibiotic.
It acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and is highly effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including:

  • Escherichia coli
  • Salmonella spp.
  • Klebsiella spp.
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Pasteurella spp.
  • Staphylococcus spp.
  • Streptococcus spp.
  • Corynebacterium spp.

Target Species

Poultry, turkeys, horses, cattle, calves, sheep, goats, dogs, and cats

Indications for Use

Gentodad 5% Injection is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by gentamicin-sensitive organisms.

In dogs and cats:

  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Urinary tract infections (cystitis, nephritis)
  • Uterine infections (endometritis, metritis)
  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, tracheobronchitis)
  • Gastrointestinal infections (colibacillosis, salmonellosis)
  • Septicemia
  • Arthritis
  • Omphalitis
  • Otitis and tonsillitis

In horses, cattle, calves, sheep, and goats:

  • Uterine infections (metritis)
  • Respiratory infections
  • Soft tissue infections and wounds

In poultry and turkeys:

  • Control of early chick mortality caused by E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhimurium
  • Treatment of air sac infections (especially E. coli)

Contraindications

Do not use in anesthetized animals.

Undesirable Effects

None known at recommended doses.

Special Precautions for Use

Use with caution in animals with impaired renal function.

Posology and Method of Administration

Administer intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or by slow intravenous injection. Dosage should be adjusted by a veterinarian based on clinical condition.

Dogs and cats:

  • 1 ml/10 kg body weight twice on the first day, then once daily for 5–7 days

Poultry:

  • Dilute 2 ml of Gentodad 5% Injection in 100 ml sterile water to achieve 1% solution
  • Day-old chicks: 0.2 ml SC in the neck
  • Older birds: 2 ml SC in the neck

Turkeys:

  • 2–4 ml SC in the neck

Large animals (horses, cattle, sheep, goats):

  • 4–10 ml/100 kg body weight, twice on the first day, then once daily for 5–7 days

Uterine infusion (metritis treatment):

  • Cattle: 4 ml Gentodad 5% Injection in 20 ml sterile saline for 3–5 days
  • Mares: 40–50 ml Gentodad 5% Injection in 200–500 ml sterile saline for 3–5 days

Overdose

Overdose may cause neuromuscular blockade.

Withdrawal Periods

  • Animals and birds must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 5 weeks from the last treatment.
  • Not for use in animals producing milk for human consumption unless advised otherwise by a veterinarian.
