Marbodad 10% Injection

Marbofloxacin Injectable Solution

Composition

Each 1 ml contains:

  • Marbofloxacin 100 mg

Pharmaceutical Form

Sterile solution for injection. Suitable for subcutaneous (SC) and intramuscular (IM) administration.

Pharmacological Properties

Marbofloxacin is a synthetic bactericidal antimicrobial belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. It acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase, an essential enzyme for bacterial DNA replication. It has broad-spectrum activity in vitro against Gram-negative bacteria such as Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Histophilus somni, and Escherichia coli, as well as Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus species. Resistance may occur in Streptococcus strains.

Target Species

Cattle.

Indications for Use

Marbodad 10% Injection is indicated for the treatment of respiratory infections caused by marbofloxacin-sensitive strains, including Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, and Histophilus somni. It is also used to treat acute mastitis caused by marbofloxacin-sensitive E. coli strains during lactation.

Contraindications

Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to marbofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any excipients in the product.

Posology and Method of Administration

Intramuscular use:

  • For respiratory infections, administer 8 mg/kg body weight (equivalent to 2 ml per 25 kg) as a single injection.
  • If the injection volume exceeds 20 ml, divide between two or more injection sites.

Subcutaneous use:

  • For acute mastitis, administer 2 mg/kg body weight (1 ml per 50 kg) once daily for 3 days.
  • The first injection may be given intravenously if needed.
  • The preferred injection site in cattle is the neck region.

Overdose

No signs of overdose have been observed in cattle after administering up to three times the recommended dose. However, overdose may cause acute neurological symptoms, which should be treated symptomatically.

Precautions

Efficacy data indicate that the product has limited effectiveness against acute mastitis caused by Gram-positive bacteria.

Adverse Reactions

Intramuscular administration may cause transient local reactions such as pain, swelling, or inflammation at the injection site. These reactions can persist for up to 12 days. Fluoroquinolones can induce arthropathies, though this has not been reported with marbofloxacin in cattle. The neck is the preferred site for injections in cattle.

Withdrawal Period

  • Intramuscular use: Meat and offal – 3 days; Milk – 72 hours.
  • Subcutaneous use: Meat and offal – 6 days; Milk – 36 hours.

Special Safety Precautions for the Person Administering the Product

  • Avoid contact if hypersensitive to fluoroquinolones.
  • In case of skin or eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Prevent accidental self-injection.
  • If accidental self-injection occurs, seek medical advice immediately and show the product label.
  • Accidental injection may cause mild irritation.
  • Do not mix with other medicinal products.
