Oxydad 200 LA Injection

Composition

Each 1 ml contains:

  • Oxytetracycline (as hydrochloride) 200 mg

Pharmaceutical Form

Sterile solution for deep intramuscular injection.

Pharmacological Properties

Oxydad 200 LA Injection contains oxytetracycline formulated for prolonged antibacterial activity. Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Bordetella bronchiseptica, Actinomyces pyogenes, Pasteurella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., and Escherichia coli. It is also active against certain Mycoplasma species, Rickettsiae, some protozoa, and Chlamydia species sensitive to oxytetracycline.

Target Species

Cattle and sheep.

Indications for Use

Oxydad 200 LA Injection is indicated for treatment and control of infections caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive organisms in cattle and sheep. These include systemic, respiratory, urinary, and local infections such as:

  • Pasteurellosis
  • Pneumonia
  • Septicemia
  • Mastitis
  • Metritis
  • Keratoconjunctivitis (pinkeye)
  • Control of enzootic abortion in sheep and cattle

Precautions

  • Use aseptic injection technique.
  • Do not use products from treated animals for human consumption during treatment.
  • Not recommended for use in horses, dogs, or cats.
  • Avoid use in animals with renal or hepatic disorders.
  • Use with caution during late pregnancy, as oxytetracycline may cause discoloration of teeth and bones in the fetus.

Posology and Method of Administration

Administer by a single, deep intramuscular injection.

  • Standard dose: 20 mg/kg body weight (1 ml per 10 kg) for 3 to 4 days of activity.
  • High dose: 30 mg/kg body weight (1.5 ml per 10 kg) for prolonged activity of 5 to 6 days.

Overdose

No adverse effects reported with overdose.

Withdrawal Period

  • Meat:
    • At 30 mg/kg dose: 35 days for cattle, 28 days for sheep.
    • At 20 mg/kg dose: 28 days for both cattle and sheep.
  • Milk:
    • Cow's milk: 10 days.
    • Ewe's milk: 8 days.
