Pharmacological Properties
Flunixin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with potent non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic properties. Flunixin meglumine works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, an enzyme involved in the formation of prostaglandins that mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. It is widely used for managing musculoskeletal pain and inflammation in horses, and for controlling acute inflammation associated with infectious diseases in cattle.
Target Species
Horses and cattle
Indications for Use
Horses
Sedaflux Injection is indicated for the relief of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders, and for the management of visceral pain due to colic. It is also useful in conditions involving endotoxemia or septic shock, such as gastric torsion, where blood circulation to the gastrointestinal tract is compromised.
Cattle
Indicated for the control of acute inflammation related to respiratory infections. It is also recommended as adjunctive therapy in cases of acute mastitis.
Contraindications
Avoid intra-arterial administration in both horses and cattle. Accidental intra-arterial injection in horses may cause adverse reactions such as ataxia, incoordination, hyperventilation, excitement, or muscle weakness. These signs are transient and typically resolve without the need for specific treatment.
Undesirable Effects
No undesirable effects have been observed when used as directed.
