Pharmacological Properties
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces fradiae. It exhibits broad-spectrum activity primarily against Gram-positive bacteria, certain Gram-negative organisms, Mycoplasma species, some spirochetes, and large viruses. Its efficacy and long-acting formulation make it an ideal choice for managing a wide range of bacterial infections in veterinary medicine.
Target Species
Cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, dogs, and cats
Indications for Use
Cattle:
- Respiratory infections caused by Pasteurella multocida and Corynebacterium pyogenes
- Foot rot (necrotic pododermatitis)
- Diphtheria due to Fusobacterium necrophorum
- Metritis and acute mastitis caused by Streptococcus or Staphylococcus species
Sheep and goats:
- Caprine pleuropneumonia caused by Mycoplasma mycoides
Dogs and cats:
- Upper respiratory tract infections: tracheobronchitis, bronchitis, laryngitis, tracheitis
- Feline pneumonitis, cellulitis, pneumonia
- Otitis externa, metritis, tonsillitis
- Interdigital cysts, leptospirosis
- Secondary bacterial infections associated with viral diseases
- Supportive treatment during surgical procedures or post-injury infections
Poultry:
- Effective for Mycoplasma-related respiratory infections when administered subcutaneously
Contraindications
- Do not mix with other injectable solutions to prevent precipitation
- Not to be used in horses or other equine species (may cause death)
- Contraindicated in lactating cattle
- Not suitable for poultry producing eggs for human consumption

Posology and Method of Administration
Administer via intramuscular injection as follows:
- Cattle, camels, sheep, goats: 0.5–1.0 ml per 20 kg body weight once daily for up to 5 days
- Dogs and cats: 0.1–0.5 ml per 10 kg body weight once daily
- Poultry: 25 mg/kg body weight, administered subcutaneously once
Overdose
No specific adverse effects have been observed. Follow recommended dosing guidelines.
Withdrawal Period
- Animals should not be slaughtered for human consumption within 21 days of the last treatment
- Not for use in dairy animals producing milk for human consumption
