Pharmacological Properties
Benzyl benzoate is a synthetic compound derived from benzoic acid and benzyl alcohol. It acts directly on the nervous system of ectoparasites such as mites and lice, rapidly eliminating them. Studies show that Sarcoptes mites can be killed within 5 minutes of exposure.
In addition to its acaricidal and insecticidal effects, benzyl benzoate helps moisturize the skin and soothe irritation caused by parasitic infestations.
Target Species
Horses, camels, cattle, sheep, goats, and dogs
Indications for Use
Scab Heal Lotion is indicated for the treatment of:
- Mange (scabies) caused by mites
- Lice infestations (pediculosis)
- Sweet itch in horses, caused by Culicoides midges
It acts as a physical barrier to biting insects, helping to prevent infestations before they begin—especially when applied early in the spring. Scab Heal is also effective as an insect repellent for flies and midges during summer months.
