Pharmacological Properties
Flumequine is a synthetic antibiotic belonging to the quinolone group. It exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, particularly effective against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, and Haemophilus. It is also active against selected gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus spp.
Flumequine works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an essential enzyme for DNA replication, making it highly effective in treating respiratory and digestive tract infections.

Indications for Use
Flumedad 10% Water-Soluble Powder is indicated for the prevention and treatment of:
- Digestive and respiratory tract infections caused by gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Haemophilus)
- Gram-positive infections caused by Staphylococcus spp.
Its efficacy, safety, and minimal effect on production performance make it ideal for use in layers and breeders.
Contraindications
None known under normal usage conditions.
Undesirable Effects
Adverse effects are rare at recommended dosages.
No negative impact on egg laying or hatchability has been observed in layers or breeders.
Posology and Method of Administration
- Poultry: 1 g per 1–2 liters of drinking water daily for 3–5 days
- Large animals: 12–15 mg flumequine per kg body weight daily for 5 days
- Rabbits: 15–30 mg flumequine per kg body weight daily for 5 days
Overdose
No adverse effects have been reported with overdose under normal use.
Withdrawal Period
Animals and birds must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 3 days from the last treatment.
