Properties:
4.S. Dad Bolus is a combination of Streptomycin with three Sulphonamides.
It is intended for oral administration in the treatment of variety of inflammatory condotions of gastrointestinal tract infections.
Mode of action: The Sulphonamides are structural analogs of P-aminobenzoic acid, Sulphonamides are one of the competitive substitution which act against bacteria by substituting and replacing P-aminobenzoic acid, interference occurs in the synthesis of folic acid (pteroylglutamic acid) from P-aminobenzoic acid, and the heterocyclic pyridine and thiazole derivatives disrupt nicotinamide metabolism and the working of coenzyme I and II .
Absorption: Sulphonamides administered PO. Except for the poorly absorbed Sulphonamides intended for intestinal use, most are rather rapidly and completely absorbed from the GIT of monogastric animals. Absorption from the ruminoreticulum is delayed especially if ruminal stasis is present.
Excretion: Most Sulphonamides are excreted primarily in the urine. Bile, feces, milk and sweat are excretory routes of lesser significance. Glomerular filtration, active tubular secretion, and tubular-re-absorption are the main processes involved.
Target Species: Calves, foals, lambs, Kids and weaners (camels).
Dosage: 1 bolus per 35 kg body weight daily for 3-5 days.
The total daily dose should be divided into 2 or 3 equal doses, and administered at intervals of 8 or 12 hours.
